Private primary school with bilingual instruction in English/German
Our bilingual primary school at the Heidelberg Private School Centre (HPC) enables pupils to learn something special in a playful way. Bilingual instruction means that the pupils are intensively taught and supported both in English and in German.
This bilingual pathway at the primary school complies with the criteria of the current education plans and the primary school curriculum.
The Heidelberg Private School Centre’s (HPC) bilingual primary school provides pupils with a unique learning experience in a play-orientated environment. The bilingual approach means that pupils gain an intense education of English as a foreign language alongside the German language.
This bilingual specialisation in the primary school is based on the current primary school education plan and curriculum.
reasons to choose the bilingual primary school:
GROW for the future:
1. Daily and natural use of the foreign language (dual immersion method — German and English) — from the very beginning
We emphasise speaking and playful interaction in both languages. This approach facilitates natural use of the two languages in everyday life and in subject-related contexts. Children therefore acquire a high level of linguistic competence in both languages, no matter whether their mother tongue is one of the two languages or another language.
2. A strong school network
The HPC enables, in principle, all children to follow a continuous route to a general school-leaving qualification. It is possible to progress to the bilingual Gymnasium or the Secondary school. In addition, after the 7th or 10th grade, Secondary school pupils have the opportunity to move to a higher level of school. Our school and career advisory service will be happy to show you the various options.
3. Intercultural education
Our multicultural school life reflects the diversity of our pupils’ backgrounds. The informal encounter of children from different cultures promotes tolerance and acceptance and leads to a high level of intercultural competence. In light of social change, this is becoming increasingly important for success in twenty-first century life.
BELONG to our school family:
4. Small classes and a friendly atmosphere
Children feel comfortable and welcome in our manageably small classes. They can be intensively accompanied by their teachers, have their say and are individually supported where necessary. In turn, teachers are supported by a multi-professional team that also help shape afternoon activities. In this way, children always encounter the same people during the course of a school day and feel secure.
5. Choice of early morning and afternoon educational and leisure activities
- early morning supervision from 7:15 a.m. by a social education worker
- hot meal at lunchtime between 1 and 1:30 p.m. (food brought from home can be heated in a microwave)
- after 1:30 p.m.: homework supervision and reading support time with qualified personnel
- after 3:30 p.m.: choice of diverse club activities (cognitive, creative, sporting or musical) for one hour
- after-school supervision possible until 5:15
Our primary school
Our primary school is part of the Heidelberg Private School Centre. Since the 2013/14 school year we have given many children a strong start to their school career. At our centrally located school in the Old Town we offer primary school children from grades one to four a colourful and child-friendly learning environment which promotes positive learning development alongside the development of a harmonious, well-rounded personality.
With the aim of facilitating childlike discovery of the world, our fourteen teachers use the bilingual concept to teach children in German or English in manageable class sizes.
Classrooms and outdoor areas are bright, friendly and child-centred. This creates the conditions for children to be able to live out their creativity as well as satisfy their need for movement.

The children are guided and accompanied by a dedicated team of educators. The HPC bilingual primary school is state approved. All teachers are fully trained and hold the second state examination for the teaching profession or a comparable recognised international master's degree.
Our curriculum is based on the 2016 educational plan for Baden-Württemberg.
Learning at the HPC bilingual primary school
Learning step by step
In grades 1-4, the primary school lays the foundation for your child’s successful school career and is thus the basis for a happy, responsible and successful future. The school continues the educational and upbringing work of day-care centres and the legal guardians and teaches pupils essential knowledge, skills and abilities.
The HPC bilingual primary school offers children a positive learning atmosphere in a child-friendly environment that optimally prepares your child for further steps in life.
It is based is the 2016 educational plan for the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, so that every child gains a comprehensive and excellent education to suit his or her abilities, also in terms of progression to secondary education.
The aim and focus of our pedagogical concept and activity is for children to discover the world through research-developing and networked learning in an environment of dual language immersion.
Curriculum and methods
In our bilingual primary school, the subjects mathematics and German are taught in German in all grades. The subjects English, music, science, ethics as well as movement, games and sports are usually taught in English.
The children speak, read and write in German and English from the first grade onwards. The languages are taught according to the immersion method.
A qualified Klaus Tschira research station
Science education is close to our hearts: every year since 2017, our school has qualified as a Klaus Tschira research station. This means that our school meets the quality criteria of the Klaus Tschira Competence Centre for Early Childhood Science Education. Our teachers regularly attend advanced training courses and we align our school project days with the annual theme of the foundation.
We encourage talent
Our institution cooperates with the Hector Children's Academy. The Hector Foundation tests children, free of charge, to determine if they are gifted and supports them by organising and offering courses. Parents are advised on various relevant topics.

Bilingual lessons with dual language immersion
The language immersion method is a successful form of language learning. It is internationally recognised and represents a compelling alternative to traditional foreign language teaching.
Language teaching is no longer based on the teaching of a language as a grammatical rule system, but on exposing learners to a ‘pool’ of authentic language from the very beginning. The verb 'to immerse' therefore symbolically describes the language acquisition process. This means that teachers speak exclusively in the target language from the outset and supplement spoken language with body language and visual material. The children thus acquire their mother tongue and the other language(s) in similar ways; ultimately, their use of the target language(s) becomes as natural as that of their mother tongue.
The importance of early language learning:
Current developments in education policy underscore the importance of the best possible qualification of our country's pupils. Therefore, since 1998, primary schools have been tasked with the teaching of foreign languages. This restructuring took into account neuro-cognitive and educational research recommendations in order to utilise the language learning ability of children and to start learning foreign languages at the earliest possible age.
The establishment of numerous bilingual kindergartens and primary schools over the past twenty years has demonstrated parents’ awareness of the importance of multilingualism as well as their keenness to offer their children this opportunity.
Language comprehension and speaking skills are acquired by 'immersion in the language pool'. This means that children are not systematically taught the target language, but encounter it in other subject contexts and learn it in a natural way.
The focus is on speaking and playful interaction. The child develops the target language in a natural, age-appropriate process.
Our principles and philosophy
The reliable primary school — wide-ranging flexibility
The HPC bilingual primary school follows the concept of the 'reliable primary school'. This means that as parents you can be sure that your child is well looked after every day during core school time. Even if teachers are absent through illness, your child won’t miss out on lessons.
This also applies to the childcare hours. Your child is looked after reliably by us during the booked care hours and is always in good hands.
During the childcare hours you book, your child will meet well-trained and sympathetic staff who provide and further develop a high-quality range of services.
Flexibility throughout the whole week
The support modules offered in addition to core school time can be booked flexibly.
This is possible from Monday to Friday, i.e. throughout the school week. Homework and reading support time as well as club time and late supervision can also be booked regularly on one or two specific days a week. We will be happy to advise you in this regard.
Even if your child is booked for care or support times, you can of course collect him or her earlier.
The costs for the respective modules can be found further down on this page.
Nutrition: EU school fruit scheme and a wholesome, balanced diet
At our primary school, every child has the opportunity to have a hot lunch from Monday to Friday, for a fee. The meals are delivered freshly prepared by our catering partner Kids-Meal, are regionally sourced and contain organic ingredients. Food allergies or vegetarian diets can be catered for.
Balanced meals provide children with all the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development and can help prevent diet-related diseases in adulthood.
A wholesome, balanced diet increases performance and can compensate for deficits in a one-sided diet. In addition, it is a cornerstone for a healthy lifestyle in adulthood, since eating habits practised in childhood usually last a lifetime.
In addition, we serve fruit from the EU school fruit scheme during breaks and for lunch. Our pupils enjoy taking advantage of this offer.
Passionate about what we do
Like our pupils, when selecting new teachers we pay attention both to professional competence and to the fact that the chemistry is right.
Our team share common values, work towards the same goals and support each other in everyday school life.
We particularly value a positive, friendly atmosphere in the classroom, supplemented by a resource-orientated culture of error tolerance and flat hierarchies.
We want to support pupils in reaching their maximum potential and use all our specialist knowledge and experience to this end. Teachers are supported by additional colleagues from pedagogical, psychological or educational professions.
This is what our pupils notice. They recognise that teachers and colleagues take time for them and accompany them individually where necessary. This makes a significant contribution to the children's well-being. A positive frame of mind, as brain research shows, increases learning success.
Fees and funding opportunities
In order to avoid a separation of pupils according to the ownership of the parents individual agreements on the amount of the school fees are possible. We are happy to lead an individual consultation.
The school fees are calculated on the basis of a percentage share (maximum 5%) of the net household income.
1. The monthly school fee is usually 295 euros.
2. Processing fee: 295 euros.
3. Sibling discount on request.
"Pedagogy Plus" package
The optional additional services such as supervision or the "Pedagogy Plus" package result from the total amount of income p.a.
- up to 30,000 euros income p.a.– 10 Euro monthly
- up to 60,000 euros income p.a. – 40 Euro monthly

Discounts on school tuition fees:
In the interests of promoting social diversity at school, school fees can be reduced, on request, in certain cases e.g. for families who could not otherwise afford the school fees for several children at schools of the F + U Group of Companies or for children who are considered to be particularly worthy of support due to their achievements.
This tuition discount can only be granted to a limited number of families and F + U reserves the right to reject such requests if the total number of applications surpasses the limit fixed by our company. The confidential nature of data in applications for tuition discounts is respected at all times and the related information about the financial status of applicant families is treated in a highly confidential manner.
For further information about the application procedure, please contact the school administration. Please note that a reduction in school fees is subject to an annual reapplication.
