HPC secondary school with bilingual instruction
Why F+U secondary school in Heidelberg?
Why is our secondary school in Heidelberg the right choice for you? Today’s working environment is characterised by internationality and globalisation.
Knowledge of foreign languages and English at a high level are central to professional success.
reasons to choose the HPC secondary school:
1. Bilingual Instruction
From the fifth grade onwards, we start with bilingual lessons in alternating subjects and continue this concept until the graduation. At our secondary school, bilingual instruction takes place in an additional weekly lesson and is thus a supplement to regular lessons. Bilingual teaching is also useful for children who have problems with foreign languages. It gives them additional access to the English language.
2. Well-structured and familial atmosphere
In our small classes the pupils can be better supervised. The result is greater learning success. Our school social work provides additional educational work in order to create a familiar learning atmosphere for the pupils.
3. Free selection of educational and leisure activities in the afternoon
In addition to the regular lessons, which usually end at 1 p. m., you have the possibility of a supervision until 5:15 p. m. We offer your children a lunch table, homework supervision, individual tutoring, learning therapies as well as attractive educational and leisure activities.
4. In the heart of Heidelberg
We are only a few steps away from Heidelberg’s main train station and are therefore very well connected to the public transportation network.
5. Universal education
The HPC offers an integral education path to graduation. This means that it is possible to transfer between bilingual Gymnasium and our bilingual secondary school. After graduation, our students may choose not only to continue their studies at the international University of Cooperative Education iba or at the University of Economics, Technology and Culture (HWTK) but also at all universities in all study programs according to admission requirements.
Secondary school profile
Our secondary school offers the students a continuous school career from elementary school to Gymnasium. Our bilingual profile promotes early and intensive language acquisition. We focus on the strengths and weaknesses of our students. Our individual support does not only enable them to achieve higher performance, but also to enjoy learning.
We accompany our students in their careers and personal development. Due to the small class sizes, we can devote more attention to each student and respond to their individual needs. Difficulties and deficits are compensated for at an early stage with support and tutoring programmes. In addition to the knowledge imparted in class, we attach great importance to the acquisition of social skills.
Our secondary school ends with the „Mittlere Reife“. The diploma paves the way for our students to pursue many professions and to our vocational grammar schools. In order to make it easier for them to decide on an apprenticeship or the Abitur, we present our students their perspectives and support them in their choice.
The teachers of the HPC secondary school
When hiring new teachers, we pay attention not only to the professional and pedagogical competence, but also to the fact that the chemistry is right. Our team represents the same values, works together towards the same goals and supports each other in everyday school life. A positive atmosphere in the classroom and flat hierarchies are particularly important to us.
Our students also notice this. They benefit from the knowledge and experience of our teachers and know that they will take their time for each individual after the lesson. Whether to explain a task again or to support the students in solving school-unrelated proble
We are an innovative secondary school and respond to changes in the job market. Communication and information path are developing day by day, and language skills constantly gain in importance. With our bilingual instruction, we prepare students for the internationalisation of the professional world.
Bilingual instruction means that the subjects are taught proportionately in a foreign language – in our case in English. Pupils can choose the bilingual instruction from the fifth grade onwards, which will run continuously up to the 10th grade. They will receive extended English lessons and specialisation in the subjects EWG (earth sciences / economics / community), music and sports. Bilingual tuition comprises at least two hours per week or at least 80 hours per school year.
Fluently in English + Mittlere Reife
Our goal is to enable students to communicate fluently and confidently in English and to communicate and discuss a variety of complex and subject-related topics. If they graduate from secondary school with the „Mittlere Reife“, they are highly trained in language competence.
The „DESI“ study (Deutsch Englisch Schülerleistungen International) proves that the bilingual instruction not only promises success, but also holds on to it. In a representative sample of 38 bilingual classes, the students performed above-average in their communicative skills. In their listening comprehension, they were two years ahead of their classmates without bilingual instruction. They even outperformed them in detecting and correcting grammatical errors.

Further educational paths at the Heidelberger Private School Center
After completing the HPC secondary school our students get the secondary school diploma (intermediate school leaving certificate or "Mittlere Reife").
Based on this degree, a further school career within the HPC or the F + U education group is unbureaucratically possible:
- graduation at vocational school (Fachhochschulreife) or
- graduation at our vocational Gymnasium (Abitur) with a focus on economics or social sciences
Our secondary school is a state-approved alternative school. The graduation is thus identical to those of a regular school. We therefore teach according to the education plan of Baden-Württemberg. All our teachers are pedagogically qualified and approved by the Karlsruhe Regional Council.

Why choosing a private school? This question is difficult to answer and there is certainly no general answer.
Our students appreciate the small classes, the good supervision and the international approach of our school. Many of our students choose our secondary school because they are „overlooked“ at regular schools due to large classes. At our school it is easier for them to develop further.
Likewise, international families who come to Germany for professional reasons also appreciate our school because of its bilingual instruction. Moreover, we are attractive for children of working parents.
With our homework supervision, tutoring and all-day supervision, we ensure that your child usually no longer has to work for school at home.
The composition of our classes is based on a balanced mix of students. We strive for a balanced relationship between girls and boys. In our experience, this has a positive influence on the way we deal with each other and on the teaching atmosphere.
The personality of the children is very important to us when admitting students. We make sure that the children feel comfortable in their classroom. Experience shows that they are more motivated and perform better at school.
Interested children can easily take part in a trial day.
We are a private educational institution and we rely on tuition fees and donations to finance our programs. School fees must, however, not lead to exclusion of students, as prescribed by law. Expenses for tuition can be claimed for tax purposes.
The monthly school fees for lessons and teaching materials amount to 160 euros, minus an additional eligibility claim of 45 euros, which is reimbursed by the state of Baden-Württemberg after the end of one school year.
Siblings discount: 25% for the second child, 50% from the third child
The optional additional services such as supervision or the "Pedagogy Plus" package result from the total amount of income p.a.

We are committed to making education accessible to all and supporting individual cases by reducing school fees. These include families who cannot pay tuition, who have registered several children in the schools of the F+U Group or whose children truly merit financial support. Applications for tuition reduction and all financial-related matters shall certainly be treated as confidential.
Please contact the school administration for further information about application. Request for tuition reduction must be re-applied each year.
