Everyday school life at HPC International School

Our daily school life is regulated by our school policies, which we collaboratively develop and review annually with participation of teachers, students and parents/guardians.

Projects

Partner Schools
We closely collaborate with IB schools from all over the world. Most closely we cooperate with a school in Taiwan, one in Prague (Czech Republic) and with the Mudita School for refugees from Myanmar in Mae Sot (Thailand).

With all those schools we exchange materials, we have combined online lessons on specific topics. Teachers exchange experiences and visit each other’s lessons to learn from each other.

Myanmar Project
The Myanmar project is close to the heart of all our students, teachers and parents. We support this school with many fundraising activities in which every single student gets involved. What's more, we have granted a scholarship to a student from this school who now attends our school here with us in Heidelberg.

Clubs

There are many different clubs at HPC International School and there are more each year. Clubs may differ from year to year because it is of importance to us that these reflect the interests of the students, as they should ideally be initiated and led by students and merely supported by teachers. In our clubs students develop leadership qualities.

Subjects Film and Digital Design

In the subject Film students develop competences and skills in the areas of media production and presentation as well as analytical, critical and collaborative skills in relation to media.

In Design students develop their digital skills while in the creation and documentation of their projects supported by digital media and different technologies.

We also use social media to report on our daily work at our school. Many of the posts are created directly by our students.

Digital Concept

Online application:
Our application process is completely digitalized using the platform of OpenApply.

For an online application, please visit our OpenApply platform.

Turnitin
We use Turnitin as our plagiarism detection software and to ensure the authenticity of our students’ materials in all classes and for all assignments. Our goal is to develop our students’ understanding of the relevance of proper citing and referencing and what it means to be principled as well as to support the development of academic integrity in our programmes. Furthermore, we use the Turnitin Feedback Studio tutoring independent work and giving feedback in high quality.

ManageBac
We use this learning platform for information, communication, data management, daily teaching and learning, homework, documentation, grade books and report cards, projects and clubs and the calendar function to support the time management. Parents can access the platform as well to directly follow their children’s learning progresses.

Online resources and libraries (InThinking)
Our librarian supports students in using online resources and online libraries as well as the online access to our community library and the university library in Heidelberg. Furthermore, we use the learning platform InThinking for numerous subjects.

BYOD
Our students bring their own laptops and/ or tablets to school and use them both daily in lessons and at home. There are no special requirements for the devices. In special cases devices can be borrowed from school.

Lunch

Every student has the opportunity to eat a hot lunch Monday through Friday from the school cafeteria. The meals are delivered freshly prepared by our catering partner, come from regional cultivation and contain organic components. Food allergies or vegetarian diets can be catered for.

Full meals provide children with all the nutrients they need for optimal growth and development.

Students sign up for warm lunches when applying for school. Alternatively students may bring their own lunches and, on request, may warm up in the microwave under supervision.

Parent Work

Parents and guardians are part of our school family and can contribute to school life and the school’s development in many different ways:

  • Regular parent meet and greet evenings
  • Individual parent-teacher conferences twice a year
  • Monthly newsletter
  • Parent focus group
  • Parents and guardians are invited to information evenings where they take the role of learners themselves, work on projects, come to understand the school programme better and develop strategies how to best support their children in their development.
  • Parent support group: Parents and guardians may contribute to every day school life – from baking a cake to offering a workshop
