IB Middle Years Programme MYP0 - MYP3 (10-13 Years)

MYP0 - MYP3 is the transition period from PYP to MYP. We teach according to the curriculum, assessment and core components of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme starting from MYP0.

Students can start this programme at about age 10 after German Primary school (first 4 years of school) or any other primary school programme in the world.

Most students join in grade 5, 6, 7 or 8 in September each year, but as we live in a mobile world, we accept students starting throughout the year for all grade levels.

Students will learn in close relation to our school´s mission statement as well as the IB´s learner profile, based on inquiry and action.

What makes us special

Our school places great importance on student-led learning based on inquiry and action. The students’ interests and prior knowledge are at the center of the learning process. Skill-based teaching helps them understand how to learn and become eager life-long learners.

Our modern library offers a wide selection of books and resources - mainly in English and German, but also in many other languages. A qualified librarian supports the students learning.

At International School we value

  • Project- and hands-on learning - students acquire knowledge through their own experiences
  • Transdisciplinary units - content is not isolated, but are conveyed in a larger context
  • teaching high-level digital skills - this includes data management, media literacy and self-management skills.

Subjects

Thanks to small class sizes with a maximum of 21 students, we are able to support each child individually. All lessons are taught entirely in English, while all students also learn German—either Language and Literature for native speakers or German as a Foreign Language. Our intercultural community of students and teachers from around the world creates an open and inspiring learning environment.

  • English/German Language and Literature
  • German/English Language Acquisition
  • Chinese language acquisition
  • Individuals and societies (History and Geography and how these subjects are related)
  • Mathematics
  • Combined sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and understanding how these sciences are related to each other)
  • Visual Arts
  • Design (digital and product design)
  • Physical and health education

Parent Engagement and School Community

We place great importance on involving parents in school life. At meet-and-greet evenings, school events, and through our parent focus group, they gain insight into our educational approach and learn how to best support their child.

To strengthen the sense of community among students, we offer a buddy program where students in Grades 9 and 10 mentor the youngest students, helping them settle in more easily.
